Knee Injuries One of the most common overuse injuries to the knee is "Runner's knee" or Patellofemoral syndrome. A change in normal activity like an unusually hard workout, or a longer than usual bike ride can lead to a strain around the kneecap and its' surrounding tissues. The repetitive stresses placed on your hip joint can cause strains to the tissues around the joint including the capsule or labrum, muscles in the groin, hamstring and lateral hip stabilizers, and bone. Diabetes and Endurance Athletes Acutely, uncontrolled blood sugars lead to a situation where your blood sugar either gets too high (hyperglycemia) or too low (hypoglycemia). Low blood sugars initially may cause dizziness, difficult concentrating, sweating, and shaking but may progress to seizures, coma, brain damage and death. Just about every athlete at one point or another has experienced hypoglycemia, although most of us know it as "bonking".
